Devotion- Philippians 3:20 (Part 1)

Phil. 3:20-"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." Having just described the horrid condition and mindset of those who are enemies of the cross, Paul now moves to the glorious position of those who are truly saved. We will break this verse down into two parts. Today we consider-"For our conversation is in heaven..." It means we are citizens of heaven. Our home is there, our heart is there, our affection and love is... there, we are laying up treasures there, and we are certainly going there. Hear John Gill-"...the city whereof we are freemen is heaven, and we behave ourselves here below, as citizens of that city above: heaven is the saints' city; here they have no continuing city, but they seek one to come, which is permanent and durable; a city that has foundations, whose builder and maker is God, Hebrews 11:10, as yet they are not in it, though fellow citizens of the saints, and of the household of God; they are pilgrims, strangers, and sojourners on earth...but are seeking a better country, an heavenly one, and God has prepared for them a city, Hebrews 11:16; they have a right unto it through the grace of God, and righteousness of Christ, and a meetness for it in him; and their conversation is here beforehand, while their commoration, or temporary residence, is below; their thoughts are often employed about it; their affections are set upon it, Colossians 3:2; their hearts are where their treasure is, Matthew 6:21..." Wow! So we are citizens of two lands-here and primarily of heaven. We are pilgrims here on our way home. Let us resolve today to rejoice in that truth, live as though it is fully true, and seek to take someone else with us. Let us be about the business of the Kingdom of God. Thank God this world is not our home. Lord, our hearts cry out for you today! Thank you for changing us, making us your children, and preparing us a home with you. We long to be with you today. Shine through us today for your glory! Amen and Amen! Hallelujah!
